Bible Study Lesson on Lying

Everyone will have told a lie at some stage in their lives. Lying is a sin against God’s commandment no matter if it is done with good intention. Many people tell lies without realizing. For example, when you gossip and report about other people’s business, you are lying. Adults often tell lies to children in order to make them behave properly. We should be alert with what we say and never tell lies. We must have God’s wisdom in handling certain difficult circumstances but we must make sure not to tell lies. As Christians, we must abide in God’s commandments and demonstrate love towards one another otherwise we cannot bear testimonies to others.

Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. (Colossians 3:9-10 KJV)

Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. (Ephesians 4:25 KJV)

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44 KJV)
